Keeping your New Pool Clean This Season

You have finally gotten the pool of your dreams, and you are now becoming an expert on all things relating to backyard entertainment. The new pool construction was definitely a big investment in your home, so it is important that it is cleaned and maintained, so it is kept looking like new and running smoothly for years to come. The following are just a few tips to help you keep your pool looking like new.

Daily Cleaning and Maintenance Tasks

There are a few tasks you can complete on a daily basis to keep your pool water clean and beautiful. It is recommended that you take some time every day to skim the surface of the pool water. Skimming the surface of the pool will help to remove any dirt and debris like leaves and bugs from the water.

Next, after skimming the surface, you can vacuum and brush the pool. Vacuuming the pool will catch all the debris that may have sunk to the bottom that you wouldn’t be able to get from skimming the surface.

Finally, you will want to check the water level, the chlorine levels, and the pump and filter. To check the water level of the pool, simply look at it. It is easy to see if the water level is a bit too high. If you need to lower the water level, you can use a pump, a waste setting on a valve, or a siphon hose to remove some of the excess water.

To check the pump and filter, you can listen to them while they are running to rule out any weird, unusual or strange sounds they may be making that can signal a potential problem.

Weekly Cleaning and Maintenance Tasks

While you do not have to necessarily check the chemicals every day, you should definitely check them two to three times per week to make sure there is a good balance. The pH and chlorine levels should remain consistent.

Once a week, you can also add any specialty chemicals you may have for your pool including algaecide or a clarifier to help control the growth of algae and help improve the pool’s filtration.
