Deciding Between a Custom or Pre-Designed Pool

If you have finally decided to put in the dream pool in your backyard to create a relaxing space for you and your family to enjoy throughout the year, then you have probably begun the task of looking at all the different pool building options there are available in your area.

A custom in-ground pool offers you the opportunity to attach all the extra features you desire. You can choose to add features such as fire or water features, you can choose a specialty plaster, lighting, artificial rocks and other aesthetics, waterfalls, and you can even choose to add a waterslide. You can also choose the exact shape that you want the pool, so you are sure to find something perfect for your yard and your family.

A pre-designed pool, on the other hand, is typically made from fiberglass and is a pre-finished shell that is installed right into the ground. They are installed much faster than custom pools, but they may also begin to show signs of wear and tear such as cracking before a custom pool would.

Which Is Right for You?

There are a few considerations you should keep in mind when trying to decide between installing a custom pool or a pre-designed fiberglass pool. While custom pools are generally concrete poured and highly customizable, a fiberglass pool can also be customizable to an extent.

While you cannot change the initial shape or size of the pre-designed fiberglass pool, you will still have options available to you for the color finishes, tile, patio design, and added water features.

The costs associated with a fiberglass pool tend to be significantly lower than the costs associated with a concrete and customized pool as well. So, while there are a few things that absolutely cannot be changed, you still have the room to customize while also saving a bit of money in the process.

Finally, it also comes down to the space you have available and the dream pool design you have had stuck in your head since you decided to take this path toward the investment in your home and family.
If you have an odd shaped yard or a smaller one and you require a more non-traditional shape and size, then you will most likely have to go with a highly customizable pool. However, if you have the space and footage available, a fiberglass pool will fit in nicely, and you will be able to choose the finishes you want.
