5 Great Pool Workouts To Help You Keep Your 2018 Fitness Goals

1. Lunges: Great for building leg strength and supporting balance.Then take a wide step forward, not letting the knee pass the toes. Lunge down gently. Do this ten times per rep. You can also do side lunges as well by taking wide steps to the side. If needed, stand by a pool wall for support.

2. Pikes: Pikes are a really great workout for your abs and arms. Stand in the pool where the water goes to your neck. Pull up your knees to your chest. Lean back and extend and straighten both legs forward into a “pike” position. At this point, your body will be a V shape hold this position and circle your arms a few times then release. Do this ten times per rep.

3. Jumps: Jumps are great for leg and back strength. Find a shallow area of the pool. Then holding your breath, squat down to the bottom of the pool so your knees are at a 90° angle and your feet are flat on the bottom. Then jump, launching yourself out of the water. Keep your arms by your side and repeat ten times for a rep.

4. Wakes: Wakes are great for arms, back, and abs. Stand in chest high water and extend your arms forward with your palms flat together. Then using your legs and hips for motion, twist at the waist and drive your arms horizontally through the water, rotating left and right to 180°. Do this for 30 seconds for a rep.

5. Split Stance Fly: This is a great full body workout. Standing in shallow water, face forward with your hips square and step back with your left leg. Drop your left knee about an inch or two above the pool floor. Then extend your arms out to the side, palms facing forward, and then return them to the original position and bring your foot back to the front. Repeat on the right side. Repeat for 30 seconds for a rep.
