What You Should Be Teaching Your Child About Pool Safety

With the warm spring weather coming in and summer not too far behind, you and the whole family couldn’t be more eager to hop into your luxury pool! However, if you have children eagerly putting on their swim suits, there is a few things you need to teach them about pool safety.

Don’t Run!

There is a reason this is considered a classic pool rule. Not only are the edges around the pool slippery thanks to splashing water and the water drops that fall when getting out of the pool, but you are simply more likely to slip and fall while running than while walking. That aside, the area around the pool is typically made of a rather hard surface that can do some real damage when someone falls.

Never Go Into The Water Unsupervised!

Even when the kids are at your own pool, they should never hop in without some kind of adult supervision. Even adults may want to make sure there is someone else around in case of trouble, but this is much more crucial to children and inexperienced swimmers. That’s why it may not be a bad idea to get some swimming lessons in for both you and your child.

Very Young Children Should Use Flotation Devices!

Typically, you would think of a full life jacket as a floatation device, but it’s not the only one out there. Inflatable arm bands or anything else that can be strapped on to a young child to keep them a float can work just as well. This will allow children to easily swim and float here and there with little risk of drowning. However, it is crucial to note that this does not replace supervision. Children can sometimes damage or wiggle out of their floatation devices and an adult needs to be there to ensure their safety if it does.
